Nokia Care, which provides support and help for Nokia's complete product range, has opened a Twitter account @NokiaHelps. They are inviting people to send in their queries, to which, they will, if possible, provide a reply. Support by Twitter is necessarily limited by the short messages involved, but for some will be more convenient that posting to a forum or calling a support line.

Nokia also has a US specific Nokia Care account, @NokiaCareUS, which provides support for the US market. The @NokiaHelps account provides global coverage and is run by Juha-Matti Heikkinen (@JuhisH), Social Media Editor at Nokia Care.

Nokia is far from the first mobile company to provide support via Twitter. For example, the @VodafoneUK, set up earlier in the year, has an impressive track record, which other companies would do well to examine as a case study. However it's good to see Nokia extend the channels through which its consumers can contact support.

How well support-by-Twitter scales is open to debate, but it does have the potential to put a more human face on the company too, and, if handled properly, can create a positive brand association, although the opposite is also true. That could be a welcome bonus for Nokia, given the image and perception problems that Nokia is facing amongst high-end users.

Users can now keep a track of the latest visited sites from their Android and iPhone searches. Google Mobile blog recently highlighted that Google search is now advanced with the new search history feature.

Users can view a combination of all searches on their phones immediately as they sign-in even when on the go. Handset users can identify their mobile searches as they are highlighted with a tiny phone icon. Whereas, websites visited from a desktop or a laptop can be identified easily with various screenshot thumbnails.

In addition to all these exciting features, users can delete specific search queries by simply clicking the edit button on top of the homepage. By selecting the ‘Do not save searches’ option under settings, users will no longer receive search history. Convenience is amplified for mobile web users as they just need to sign in and click the history tab placed at the bottom of the Google homepage.

As per the Nokia Beta Labs blog, the service is now available to Indian audiences in a new version. New features are accompanies by several bug fixes in this facelift.

The new add-ons brought in by the company enable users to share streams as well as specific posts in a simplified registration flow. They can further view particular stream posts and receive the search results directly on the stream walls. Other than this, users setting has been also added which controls charge notifications, location sharing and message history. Some bug fixes found during the testing phase have been improved as well.

To get this new version, users need to completely uninstall the old version. With this, users might lose their old messages and stream posts though no activity will be affected, as the application will sync the conversation groups and subscribed or created streams effortlessly. They can further download the new version as the underlying data structures have been enhanced.

Unfortunately the company claims that due to the many inclusions in the Streams feature, the performance of the application probably has been affected. And Nokia is closely working on releasing new bug fixes for the same.

Indian users can download the updated Nokia Mobile Communities application from the company’s official website. Those with GPRS capabilities can messages nmc to 55555 and receive the download link directly onto their devices.

Tata Docomo, the GSM arm of Tata Teleservices launched ‘Pay Per Site’ initiative for customers where one “Pays-for-what-you-use” Internet-browsing.

“Pay only for what you use and hence fairness continues to be an important differentiator for the brand,” said Gurinder Singh Sandhu, Tata Docomo’s head of marketing. “Our customer feedback to Pay Per Use services launched before has further strengthened our determination that we have been successful in creating customer delight, with services that are refreshingly different.”

Acer has unveiled its latest Android smartphone - the Acer Stream. Earlier known as the Acer Liquid Stream, the company seems to have dropped the "Liquid" moniker.

When launched, the Stream will run Android 2.1. However, it is certain that it will receive the Froyo treatment by the end of the year - like most other high-end smartphones in its class.

The Stream is quite a thin handset and measures just11.2 mm. It is quite a decent looker as well. It features a large 3.7-inch WVGA AMOLED display. Other features include Acer Touch 3D UI, an Accelerometer, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, UPnP, GPS, Social networking integration (Facebook, Twitter), Nemo multimedia player, and Dolby Mobile sound. There is Bluetooth and HDMI port thrown in as well.

Flipping the Acer Stream over reveals a soft-touch-coated backside and a 5MP camera without a flash, but with HD 720p video recording. Should you remove the back cover, you'll gain access to the 1400mAh Li-Ion battery, which has to be gotten out of the way in order for you to be able to install SIM or microSD cards. By the way, our unit came preloaded with an 8GB microSD - nice touch.

Overall, the Acer Stream feels good in the hand (seems like we've gotten used to holding BIG phones), while its plastic build seems reassuring, though not really premium. Still, it would have definitely been nicer if it was just a tad more compact. It is possible to operate the handset with one hand only, if you stretch your fingers a bit, but it's way more comfortable if you use two hands.

Android 2.2 powered Droid 2 is gearing up for its much awaited release. However the OS is now said to have a strange defect, its kind of tone deaf. TechCrunch states that the Android 2.2 fails to offer pristine sound quality for streaming music services which was earlier possible in the 2.1 version.

Music from services like Pandora, MOG, TuneWiki, Slacker and Rhapsody sounds very muddy, tinny and is no longer pleasant. The music appears to sound like ‘a pair of tin cans’. Users can make out the lyrics and the notes but the quality seems to be awful.

A Google spokesperson informed TechCrunch that “We have fixed the bug, and are working with our partners to update the affected Android devices as quickly as possible.”

This defect was first noticed in the month of June when one Nexus user reported a problem in the sound quality after which several other Android 2.2 powered handset owners have complained. This appeared in the bug report on Google Code. Comments on the report stated that it was because Google shifted from OpenCore media framework to Stagefright.

Android 2.2’s underlying audio decoder renders support to HTTP progressive streaming. However, Stagefright is unable to handle the AAC+ and eAAC+ media codecs. These codecs are those on which some of the most popular services function.

Google has announced that the bug fix has been completed and plans to ship it as soon as possible. In this case the sooner the better, as a number of other devices featuring the OS are already in the process of being shipped and not many would want to pick them up unless the streaming audio quality is not fixed.

SUSPENSION of Research in Motion's BlackBerry services which was scheduled from today, August 6, resumed after few hours of suspension, according to the BBC today. Earlier the Saudi Communications and Information Technology Commission released a statement to announce the ban of BlackBerry services including e-mail and instant messaging.

According to the BBC report, Research in Motion's BlackBerry services started after the suspension for four hours on Friday, August 6.     According to the report, Blackberry manufacturers RIM had been found to satisfy the local authorities, who claimed the devices compromised national security.

Earlier, two Gulf countries UAE and Saudi Arabia  said that they will suspend Blackberry Messenger, Blackberry e-mail and Blackberry Web-browsing services over security concerns. There are an estimated 400,000 Blackberry users in Saudi Arabia and an estimated 500,000 BlackBerry users in the UAE.

The Gulf countries have shown concerns that BlackBerry maker Research In Motion (RIM) encrypts BlackBerry communication by routing data through its servers in Canada. Earlier, BlackBerry maker RIM has said its technology will not allow a third party to monitor communications running through the BlackBerry's enterprise servers.

Korean phone maker giant, Samsung, has announced that it will  be launching the its Android 2.2 for its Galaxy S in September this year.

This announcement was made by the company, when a leaked version of the OS was available on the Internet, but Samsung did not use it, but rather awaited for the right time to provide the users the full version.

The exact date has not been announced by Samsung, but the month of September has been finalised. The new OS would help the Galaxy S use Adobe Flash and also help create Mobile Hotspots.

Samsung criticized those who have said that the sales of the Galaxy S is poor, but it has said that would soon be launching a successor to the Galaxy by any time next year, but for now, Galaxy S has a strong market world wide.
