Swiftkey Android app knows what you're typing

Posted by webmaster Monday, February 14, 2011 0 comments

SwiftKey brings the future of text entry to smartphones. It uses TouchType’s breakthrough Fluency™ technology to predict the next word you want to type, before you even press a key.SwiftKey

Fast
With SwiftKey, your next word is predicted with such incredible accuracy that a third of suggestions are right first time and usually you won’t need to press more than two letters.

Accurate
SwiftKey uses advanced error correction, meaning grammar and spelling errors are a thing of the past. Typing with SwiftKey produces text you can rely on, in a fraction of the time it takes on a regular QWERTY keyboard.

Intelligent
SwiftKey doesn’t just predict regular words – it learns as you type and remembers how you write. As words and sentences are chosen over time, its Fluency™ engine creates a dynamic understanding of your writing style to boost the accuracy, fluency and speed of prediction.

Sound good? Head over to our download section to try it out for yourself.

Features
Next-word prediction

SwiftKey offers intelligent next-word prediction by analysing the context of a user’s sentence and input behaviour. This is accomplished through TouchType's Fluency™ prediction engine, which employs statistical language models generated by analysing billions of words of background text.

In our tests, around a third of next words are correctly predicted without any characters being entered and roughly 80% are predicted within two or fewer character prompts.

Symbian sold roughly 325,000 smartphones a day in the same period, according to research firm Canalys, which said sales volume would likely rise in the fourth quarter.

"Nokia could continue to grow volumes now it has a new portfolio. It will be close either way," said Tim Shepherd, analyst at Canalys. The growing popularity of Android-operated phones comes as handsets look set to overtake computers as the most used products for browsing the Web.

Android Google Earth application receives an update

Posted by webmaster Wednesday, August 25, 2010 0 comments

An updated version 1.1 of the Google Earth application now marks its presence. Previously the application rode users through the mountainous and hilly terrains and this update will enable them to swim through the oceans of the Earth. For those who think sitting by the sea, beach or even a swimming pool is relaxing, here’s some good news from the Google quarters

As per the Google Mobile blog, users can now discover marine life and enjoy it right on their handsets. By zooming in below the ocean surface off the coast, users can visit beautiful landscapes and terrains underwater in Monterery Bay Canyon which is claimed to be huger than the Grand Canyon. After swimming into the water, divers can tilt the view by just tapping on the ‘look around’ icon and watch the inner surface of this undersea canyon.

Additionally, users can enjoy many photos and videos displayed by more than 100 contributors on the ‘Explore the Ocean’ layer. They can also read their experiences. On clicking the blue icons, travelers can plan their next holiday where as the gold icon exhibits content from the Mission Blue Hope Spot initiative.

Android 2.2 users can now enjoy video clips in the form of balloons if Flash player is installed in their devices. The navigation experience has been also enhanced with a simple use of two fingers will enable users to ‘look around’ and customize their viewpoint. This works as an alternative to the on-screen button and is simpler when tilting the view of mountainous landscapes or underwater canyons. By just twisting the fingers, users can rotate their devices in any direction to watch the underwater nature.

The Google Earth 1.1 version can now be downloaded from the Android Market for the devices running Android 2.1 and above.

Android 2.2 powered Droid 2 is gearing up for its much awaited release. However the OS is now said to have a strange defect, its kind of tone deaf. TechCrunch states that the Android 2.2 fails to offer pristine sound quality for streaming music services which was earlier possible in the 2.1 version. android22-ota-update

Music from services like Pandora, MOG, TuneWiki, Slacker and Rhapsody sounds very muddy, tinny and is no longer pleasant. The music appears to sound like ‘a pair of tin cans’. Users can make out the lyrics and the notes but the quality seems to be awful.

A Google spokesperson informed TechCrunch that “We have fixed the bug, and are working with our partners to update the affected Android devices as quickly as possible.”

This defect was first noticed in the month of June when one Nexus user reported a problem in the sound quality after which several other Android 2.2 powered handset owners have complained. This appeared in the bug report on Google Code. Comments on the report stated that it was because Google shifted from OpenCore media framework to Stagefright.

Android 2.2’s underlying audio decoder renders support to HTTP progressive streaming. However, Stagefright is unable to handle the AAC+ and eAAC+ media codecs. These codecs are those on which some of the most popular services function.

Google has announced that the bug fix has been completed and plans to ship it as soon as possible. In this case the sooner the better, as a number of other devices featuring the OS are already in the process of being shipped and not many would want to pick them up unless the streaming audio quality is not fixed.

Hacker runs Google Android on Apple iPhone

Posted by webmaster Sunday, April 25, 2010 0 comments

Image representing iPhone as depicted in Crunc...

A hacker who goes by the name of David Wang has just done something to prove that platforms of competing smartfone companies can indeed be compromised.

David posted a video on the 'Linux on the iPhone' blog demonstrating how Google Android can be booted onto a first-generation iPhone. He suggested that Android could be ported to all versions of Apple’s smartphones, a move that seemed greeted positively by many of the blog’s supporters.

In his blog, David also said, "At some point this summer, Apple will release the iPhone OS 4, which will include features such as multitasking and an 'iAd' mobile applicationadvertising platform. Lack of multitasking has been one of the traditional complaints lodged against the iPhone, and used as a selling point for smartphones running the multitasking-capable Google Android."
