HTC today announced that its most popular Smartphone the HTC Wildfire get the Android 2.2 Firmware Over The Air (FOTA) update and it is now available. The Android 2.2 update will give users access to a host of new features, improved performance and enhanced navigation applications.
According to the information available from the official HTC Support page, the users of HTC Wildfire who wish to upgrade the already existing Android 2.1 to Android 2.2 will have to wait until they receive a notification alerting them on the availability of the FOTA update.
As per the information, the update can be downloaded via EDGE, Wi-Fi or 3G. The update is recommended to download through unlimited data plan as the update file is quite large. Company has also advised handset owners to back up their data before upgrading as a precautionary measure.

If, after the installation is complete, your software build number supposed to shows up as 2.22.405.1, you’re now on Froyo. To check the build number go to MENU> Settings> About Phone> Software Information> Build number.
The Android 2.2 (Froyo) upgrade offers a number of features and enhancements like Support for USB tethering, Possibility of installing applications to SD card (if supported by the application), Native support for Activesync Exchange (email, contacts and calendar sync) and security policies, Enhanced Camera application, Enhanced Bluetooth support, Speed and stability improvements, WiFi Hotspot tethering and Multiple keyboard languages.
The HTC Wildfire ia a 3.2-inch QVGA touchscreen phone, equipped with a 5 megapixel camera. It is powered by a 528 MHz Qualcomm processor and currently runs the Android operating system, version 2.1. It has been described as a “Mini HTC Desire”.
